The City of Eagan follows the timing of the Minnesota Department of Transportation restrictions for the metro area.

  • All City streets are limited to 10-ton per axle; Dakota County Roads and State Highways may have different limits/restrictions, so please contact the appropriate agency for details on limits/restrictions for roadways under their jurisdiction.

Note:  The City does not allow or permit overweight vehicles on its roadways.

Roadway Restrictions FAQ’s (Metro Zone)

  • Do you have a website listing the rules and information?  Visiting the City’s website cityofeagan.com and searching “roadway load limits” will provide spring road restriction information when spring restrictions are in-place.  The webpage is not currently active since the spring restrictions are not active.
  • Do you have a city map showing each street’s weight limit? No (all City streets are limited to 10-ton per axle; Dakota County roads and state highways may have different limits/restrictions, so please contact the appropriate agency for details on limits/restrictions for roadways under their jurisdiction)
  • Does your timeframe for road restrictions coincide with the State and/or County timeframe? The City of Eagan follows the timing of MnDOT restrictions for the Metro Area https://www.dot.state.mn.us/materials/pvmtdesign/sll/
  • Will you be issuing overweight permits? The City of Eagan does not allow or permit overweight vehicles on its roadways
  • Do you allow a dumpster to be placed on the street in your city and if so do we need a permit? The City of Eagan does not allow dumpsters to be placed on the street or in the public right-of-way
