Our community is committed to preserve, protect, and invest in our natural environment. We reflect those values by creating, investing in, and implementing programs, services, and policies that make Eagan the green community our residents desire. We do this in partnership with the community through education, innovation, inclusion, engagement, and empowerment.
These ingredients are what have led to nearly every Eagan resident rating our natural environment highly, and the City is continually being acknowledged as a leader in green and sustainable initiatives and protecting and enhancing our natural spaces and places.
Here are some of our efforts, resources, and programs you can participate in to help Green Eagan.
Alternative Energy: The City Council passed an ordinance to make implementing alternative energy systems (solar, wind, geo-thermal) work for everyone by creating clear regulations that will encourage responsible construction. Residents can now count on clear, responsible guidelines for these sources of energy including placement, size, and appearance.
Solar Partnership: We have signed an agreement with Renasolar (a community solar garden developer) for the lease of solar energy to support our Community Center and Central Park. This 25-year agreement will provide clean energy and offset over $1 million in energy costs.
Electric Vehicle Charging: There are charging stations at several City facilities including the Eagan Community Center and Eagan City Hall. Future charging stations are being planned for other key locations around the City.
Through community surveys, you’ve told us Eagan’s environment is important. So, we are working to ensure we’re a sustainable community by being "green" in nearly every program and initiative we undertake.
