This information is only a guide; it is not intended nor shall it be considered a complete set of requirements:

  • On residential properties, garbage or refuse shall not be stored on the premises for longer than one week.
  • Garbage and recycling containers shall be stored within the garage or behind the front line of the home.
  • Garbage and recycling containers may be placed at the curb for pickup after 6 p.m. on the night before pickup. Containers shall be placed back in the garage or behind the front line of the home by 6 a.m. on the morning following pickup.
  • All garbage containers should be watertight, with tight-fitting covers, and be kept in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Commercial businesses and multiple dwelling premises (such as apartments), shall meet the same requirements as residential areas, but are allowed to use storage containers typically known as “dumpsters”.
  • Construction or demolition debris shall be stored in a roll-off or dumpster, or a temporary wire enclosure meeting several requirements. Please see City Code for those requirements.
  • Garbage or other refuse may not be disposed of in any other manner than through a licensed solid waste facility or county-designated facility.
  • Garbage or other refuse which is in flames or heated to the point where it could cause danger of fire may not be stored, deposited or disposed of on property.
