For the sixth time since 2006 Eagan has been named to Money Magazine’s list of America’s best smaller cities to live in. In fact, it is the only Minnesota city to have been in the top 20 most livable cities in the 2006, 2008, 2010,  2012, 2014 and 2016 biennial rankings. Eagan was found to have exceptional quality of life, education, leisure, and health factors.

  • The City of Eagan’s tax rates are consistently among the lowest of the major cities in the region and Dakota County is among the lowest taxing counties in the metropolitan area. Since 2001, Eagan has had the lowest per capita spending (annual operating expenditures) of all Minnesota cities with 50,000 or more in population, according to the Minnesota State Auditor.
  • The City has received a Triple A (Aaa) bond rating reflecting its stable financial operations.
  • An astounding 95% of Eagan residents rate the quality of life as excellent or good, 88%of Eagan residents surveyed view city services as an excellent or good value for the taxes they pay, and 88% rate city services as excellent or good in comparison to their previous city of residence.
  • Eagan is a full-service community with high quality public services capable of meeting business specific needs and future expansions. All sanitary sewer outflow is treated by the Seneca Waste Water Treatment Plant located in the City of Eagan. The plant has adequate capacity to handle all potential future developable sites in Eagan.
  • Eagan has an abundant supply of clear, clean water. The City’s water comes from a series of 20 municipal wells and two water treatment facilities with a total combined capacity of 32.5 million gallons per day. With the recent expansion of the Coachman Road facility Eagan’s water needs will be served for the next 20 years.
  • The City of Eagan Fire Department has enjoyed an excellent working relationship with its corporate community for ongoing fire suppression techniques and training. The excellent fire service and extensive water distribution system allows an insurance rating of 3, providing low premiums for businesses and residents.
  • The City recently completed a new, state-of-the-art 38,000 sq. ft. Public Safety building and fire station to increase response times and better serve its business community primarily in the northern area of the City.
  • The transportation system is enhanced by the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA), a local transit agency, which integrates express service to the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul, from multiple park and ride locations with radial  and reverse commute service to key population and employment centers.
  • The Cedar Avenue BRT (Red Line) with a stop in Eagan at the Cedar Grove Transit Station, now connects to the Blue Line LRT, the region’s first light-rail line, serving the Mall of America, MSP International Airport and downtown Minneapolis.
  • Electric service in Eagan is provided by Dakota Electric Association and Xcel Energy, which offer service at interruptible rates that can help reduce business energy costs. The Minnesota Department of Commerce supports the continued use and further development of interruptible electrical rates- it helps lower overall rates to large industrial users and takes stress off of the grid during peak usage periods.
