Eagan's Building Inspections Division reviews plans, issues permits, and performs site inspections. Permits are required to ensure construction and repair work is done correctly and complies with the Minnesota State Building Code.  Permits must be paid for prior to any work beginning or inspections being scheduled.

To schedule an inspection, please call (651) 675-5675 or schedule online. Inspections are scheduled in 30-minute increments.

Note: on Monday, April 29, we transitioned to a new permitting portal.  The new online portal provides 24/7 access to submit applications, check on statuses, request inspections, view results, and retrieve documents. Permit applications will no longer be accepted via email.

Contractors should look for an email in the coming weeks with a reference code to connect you to existing Eagan permit records.  Homeowners will need to create an account to apply for permits.

For additional permit information and general construction questions, call (651) 675-5675 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Permits are required whether a contractor or the homeowner performs the work. Projects are not complete until a final inspection is approved by a City inspector.  If any code issues are identified, they will need to be corrected by the permit applicant before the permit can be closed.
