The Fire Prevention Department is dedicated to eliminating the risk to life, property, and environment from preventable fires by providing high-impact public fire education to everyone within the City of Eagan. Topics currently taught include the following:
-
Basic Household Fire Prevention
-
Heating Safety
-
Escape Techniques
-
Fire Extinguisher Training
-
Hazardous Materials Use and Storage
-
Fire Safety Inspections
-
Basic First Aid Overview (not Red Cross certifiable)
-
Fire Station Tours
The Fire Prevention Department will speak to and provide demonstrations for any group or organization that desires information about these subjects. While the Fire Prevention Department will see a group of any size, the preference is to have groups of at least eight (8) or more. The schedule fills up fast, especially in September and October. We strongly recommend a two-week lead time so we can fit you into the schedule.
If you would like to consider having a Fire Department presence at any type of function, please fill out a visit request form, and we will make arrangements suitable for your group.

The most common type of presentation is for kids, but block parties like the one shown are very popular as well. Here, a firefighter makes a point about feeling the door before opening it in the event a fire occurs in a home. When the audience is of mixed ages, the presentation is adjusted. The Fire Prevention staff teaches kids the how and shows the adults the why.
Lots of useful information gets passed along, but once the class is over, the firefighters stick around and have fun with the kids . On this warm summer day, firefighters let the kids spray water from a fire hose and get a first-hand fun experience that they will remember for a long time. The Fire Prevention Department blends education with entertainment, a combination that kids of all ages remember.
