About the Fire Department

Personnel

The Eagan Fire Department is a volunteer paid-per-call fire department with five full-time Fire Administration staff.  These five positions include the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Administrative Secretary, Fire Marshal, and Fire Inspector.

Who are the members of the Eagan Fire Department? Look at your next door neighbor or the person who lives in the opposite apartment.  They are 18-year-old rookies and 50-year-old veterans. In "real life", they are accountants, doctors, maintenance workers, and computer technicians. A number of them have full-time jobs in other areas of public service.  There are private security employees as well as full-time firefighters with other cities.  The department also has a number of paramedics and other emergency medical personnel. Employees of Fortune 500 companies work side-by-side with private entrepreneurs. Some have even turned the Eagan Fire Department into a family affair, with fathers/mothers and their sons and daughters responding to your neighborhood on the same engine.

Spouses and/or significant others of the members of our department have developed the Eagan Fire Department Auxiliary, which acts in support of the Fire Department at major calls. They also perform a number of other functions such as fundraising for assorted charities and hosting baby-sitting clinics for youth interested in childcare.
